President's Report

Greetings IFMA members,

The Board of Directors for the Pikes Peak Chapter held our annual strategic planning meeting at the end of August. A lot of great ideas were discussed on how to improve the chapter and get more participation.

We still have some open board positions. if you have any interest in helping make this chapter great, please reach out to me or any board member and let us know. I think the saying that the more you put into something, the more you get out of it, applies to the local IFMA chapter. I have been a part of the local chapter serving on different committees and board positions for almost 10 years and it has definitely improved my facilities knowledge and provided great networking opportunities.

If you are looking to get something more out of the chapter, I would highly recommend getting involved.

On October 26th, IFMA World Workplace is back in person in Kissimmee Florida. This is IFMA’s signature event where educational sessions will inform Facility Managers, while the Expo and other events allow for great networking opportunities. It is not too late to register for this great event.

Our chapter is committed to providing timely educational sessions and collaboration between professionals. I invite you to stay informed with our monthly newsletters and look forward to seeing everyone in person at our next monthly luncheon scheduled in October.

Jeremy Bergeron, Pikes Peak Chapter President

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?

I would love to learn to weld.  Some people feel they have a song or a novel hiding inside of them. I feel like I have some sort of metal sculpture that hopefully doesn’t look like a ball of twine or something that would scare children. It’s also a highly valuable skill

What is something you learned in the last week?

When people say “You’re Right”, they might be placating you and could act counter to what you expect.  When they say “That’s Right”, they are indicating an agreement with what you are saying.  Hearing the distinction is an incredibly valuable tool that will lead to better communication. (bonus points if you can identify the book)

How do you define success?

“Success” is achievement compared to a goal.

I acknowledge that goals can be as granular as you choose. If you paint success with too broad a stroke, “failure” becomes far too probable and all-encompassing, and limits the opportunity to accept and learn from failure.

Practical success allows for losing battles while still winning the war.

If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you meet?

This power shouldn’t be spent on a stranger.  I would spend time with my Grandmother Warriner.  She was an amazing woman who I enjoyed spending time with and I could learn more from her today than I could when I was young.  Dang was she great!

What’s the coolest (or most important) trend you see today?

It’s probably more of a trend in my mind that in reality, but I love it when people abandon social media.  It could be a wonderful tool if people managed it properly, but sadly our society has treated it like juggling chainsaws on a caffeine high.
