President's Report

Greeting IFMA members,

July is the beginning of the second half of the year and when we swear in our new board members. Since our board positions are two-year commitments, many members are staying on in their board positions, but you will see some new faces as the Vice President, Social Chairperson, and the Sponsorship Chairperson. Please join me at our July luncheon for a short swearing in ceremony before the food and educational session, and to welcome the new and continuing board members.

July is National Fireworks Safety month, so I hope everyone had a great and safe Fourth of July holiday. We have seen above average rain fall here on the Front Range, which is great for our landscaping and reducing wildfire risks. The western slope is still in a drought with the governor declaring a drought emergency for half of the state. Now would be a good time to make sure your wildfire and IAQ emergency plans are up to date.

Our chapter is committed to providing timely educational sessions and collaboration between professionals. I invite you to stay informed with our monthly newsletters and look forward to seeing everyone in person at our July monthly luncheon.

Jeremy Bergeron, Pikes Peak Chapter President

Commercial Property Services - Griffis Blessing

What is your best networking tip?

Be loud, wear it with smile, and be you. Although, networking is not my forte (and likely shouldn’t be giving advice in this category), I have found that my boisterous personality and exhausting ability to talk makes a warm and lasting connection with my community members.

If you could choose anyone, who would you pick as your mentor?

Professionally, I already won the lottery for mentors. Liz Seeger, VP of Commercial Operations for Griffis Blessing, has been monumental to my growth within my company, this industry, and IFMA, as an organization. Without her wisdom, guidance, and most of all patience- I wouldn’t be thriving in this industry. To say she hasn’t been a significant influence in my personal life as well would be inaccurate, the drive and dedication in my role has allowed growth in my personal life. However, I would be in awe of the opportunity to absorb the intelligence, theory and science Louise Hays (author of the bestselling novel You Can Heal Your Life) has explored and educated in her career.

What would you do (for a career) if you weren't doing this?

Interestingly, this is my second career. Prior to starting my career in property management nearly 3 years ago with Griffis Blessing, I was a Certified Veterinary Technician working at a local emergency veterinary clinic as an intensive care unit technician. While it was a joy working with animals, my bread and butter is facilities management. The challenge and fluid nature of the industry keeps me engaged and spinning (in the best ways).

Where is your favorite place to be?

The mountains, with a side of water. As many Coloradans know finding water, isolation and mountains is a tall order, but I spend any free time I have searching, exploring, and touching nature!

If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would do?

Outside of taking care of all the adult things (how boring….), first and foremost I would find my own piece of isolation in the mountains, with water, of course. (A shocking response and tall order, I know, but a girl can dream.)

ELECTRICAL PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE

Continuing on with our Back to Basics theme, July's IN PERSON luncheon will be discussing electrical preventative maintenance.

Are you performing preventive maintenance on your electrical systems?
Are you taking the necessary steps to protect your people and your equipment?
Arc flash hazards can cause serious injury if steps aren’t taken to prevent them.

According to the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the failure rate of electrical components is three times higher for systems where preventive maintenance is not performed. This tells us that electrical failures, for the most part, can be avoided. But what does an electrical preventive maintenance (EPM) program entail?
Come to this month’s IFMA luncheon and find out!

Mike Ferguson:
"I am a native of Colorado, I was born in Memorial Hospital. I have been married to my graceful wife for 26 years, we have 4 boys, we had 2 boys and tried one more time to have a girl, we even read the book on how to choose the sex of your baby and ended up having twin boys. We are the Ferguson’s, Noise and Dirt.

I have worked as an electrician in Colorado Springs since 1990. I took a 3 year break selling shoes and attending the University of Nevada Las Vegas during that time so I have been doing Electrical work for 28 years. I have built several great projects in Colorado. The martin Luther King Bypass, Coors Field, DIA, The Colorado Springs Airport, The World Arena, several Penrose/Saint Francis projects, several Broadmoor Renovations, several UC Health projects, several UCCS projects, The Double Eagle Hotel and Casino, The Target Distribution Center and many, many others.

I have found through the years that I love helping people with their electrical needs and I really love to sit and talk with older folks and hear their stories from the past."
